Community Guidelines
Callio is built for spontaneous one-to-one conversations with people you may never have met before.
That only works when people feel able to join a call, speak freely, and leave without being harassed, threatened, exploited, or pressured.
These Community Guidelines explain what is and is not allowed on Callio. They apply whenever you use Callio, including during voice calls, text chats, through your guest profile, and when using reporting, callback, or other communication features.
These Guidelines form part of our Terms of Service.
If you use Callio, you are expected to follow them.
Violations may result in warnings, feature restrictions, ended sessions, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans. Serious conduct may result in immediate action.
1. Treat People With Respect
Callio connects you with real people.
You do not have to agree with everyone you meet. Conversations may be awkward, unusual, or completely different from what you expected.
That does not give you permission to abuse another person.
Do not:
- repeatedly insult or degrade another user;
- deliberately humiliate someone;
- aggressively target someone because of their appearance, voice, accent, background, identity, or personal characteristics;
- pressure someone to continue a conversation they clearly want to leave;
- repeatedly contact or attempt to contact someone who has made it clear that the interaction is unwanted;
- encourage other people to target or harass a user; or
- use Callio primarily to provoke, distress, or intimidate strangers.
Disagreement, criticism, and ordinary conflict are not automatically harassment.
We may consider the context, severity, repetition, and apparent purpose of the conduct when reviewing reports.
If another person does not want to continue a conversation, respect that.
2. No Harassment, Bullying, or Stalking
Harassment and targeted abuse are not allowed on Callio.
You must not use the Service to bully, stalk, intimidate, or repeatedly target another person.
Prohibited conduct includes:
- repeated unwanted contact;
- targeted verbal abuse;
- threats intended to frighten or control another person;
- following a person across profiles, sessions, or communication methods to continue unwanted contact;
- using information learned during a call to harass someone elsewhere;
- coordinating harassment;
- blackmail or attempted blackmail;
- threatening to expose private information, recordings, images, or conversations;
- pressuring another person through fear, humiliation, or intimidation; or
- encouraging another user to harm themselves.
A single incident may be serious enough for enforcement.
You do not need to repeatedly harass someone before Callio may take action.
3. No Hate or Hateful Conduct
Callio does not allow hateful conduct.
You must not attack, threaten, dehumanise, or promote hatred against people based on protected characteristics.
Protected characteristics may include, as recognised under applicable law and Callio's safety policies:
- race;
- ethnicity;
- national origin;
- religion;
- disability;
- sex;
- gender;
- gender identity;
- sexual orientation; and
- other characteristics protected by applicable law.
Do not:
- use slurs to target or degrade a person or group;
- promote the inferiority of a protected group;
- describe protected groups as less than human;
- call for exclusion, segregation, violence, or serious harm against a protected group;
- praise or celebrate violence against people because of a protected characteristic;
- repeatedly target another user's protected characteristics to humiliate or intimidate them; or
- use hateful symbols, names, or profile content to threaten or target others.
Context matters.
A discussion about hateful language, history, news, education, or personal experience is not automatically prohibited merely because it refers to offensive words or ideas.
However, claiming to be joking, ironic, or provocative does not automatically excuse targeted hateful conduct.
4. No Sexual Harassment or Unwanted Sexual Conduct
Callio is a voice-first social platform, not a place to force sexual interactions on strangers.
Do not subject another user to unwanted sexual behaviour.
You must not:
- make persistent sexual comments after another person has shown discomfort or asked you to stop;
- pressure someone to discuss sexual topics;
- demand sexual information;
- pressure someone to perform sexual acts;
- make unwanted sexually explicit sounds or descriptions;
- threaten, shame, or manipulate someone into sexual conversation;
- send sexually explicit text content to an unwilling user;
- use deception or coercion to obtain sexual content;
- threaten to share intimate material;
- engage in sexual extortion or sextortion; or
- repeatedly use Callio to force sexual interactions on randomly matched users.
Consent must be freely given.
Silence, uncertainty, fear, intoxication, or pressure should not be treated as consent.
A person may change their mind at any time.
If someone asks you to stop, stop.
5. Sexually Explicit and Pornographic Content
Do not use Callio to distribute pornographic or sexually explicit content in violation of these Guidelines or applicable law.
Prohibited conduct includes:
- sharing pornographic material through Callio;
- sending links intended to direct users to illegal or prohibited sexual content;
- using profile information to display prohibited sexually explicit content;
- exposing unwilling users to graphic sexual descriptions or material;
- promoting sexual exploitation;
- facilitating sexual services where prohibited by law;
- distributing intimate material without consent; or
- using Callio to organise the creation or distribution of unlawful sexual content.
Callio may apply stricter restrictions to sexual conduct where necessary to protect users and the Service.
Nothing in these Guidelines permits sexual content involving minors.
Sexual exploitation of minors is addressed separately below and is treated as an extremely serious violation.
6. Protect Minors
Callio is for users aged 18 and older.
Minors are not permitted to use the Service.
If you are under 18, do not use Callio.
Users must not:
- knowingly encourage a minor to continue using Callio;
- help a minor bypass Callio's age requirements;
- groom or attempt to groom a minor;
- sexualise a minor;
- request sexual content from a minor;
- send sexual content to a minor;
- discuss or arrange sexual activity with a minor;
- exploit, coerce, or manipulate a minor;
- threaten a minor for sexual or exploitative purposes;
- share, request, produce, distribute, or promote child sexual abuse material;
- direct users to child sexual abuse material; or
- use Callio to facilitate any sexual exploitation of children.
Never share child sexual abuse material, including for the purpose of condemning, exposing, or reporting it to other users.
Use appropriate official reporting channels or law enforcement channels where necessary.
We may take immediate action where we reasonably suspect child sexual exploitation or serious danger to a minor.
Where required or permitted by applicable law, Callio may preserve relevant information and cooperate with competent authorities or appropriate child-safety organisations.
False claims that another user is a child predator or has committed sexual offences may themselves constitute serious harassment or abuse.
Submit genuine concerns through the reporting system.
7. No Threats, Violence, or Promotion of Serious Harm
Do not threaten serious violence or use Callio to encourage real-world harm.
You must not:
- make credible threats to kill or seriously injure another person;
- threaten sexual violence;
- threaten attacks against a person, group, school, workplace, public place, or other location;
- share plans for an imminent violent attack;
- encourage another person to commit serious violence;
- celebrate or praise a specific act of serious violence in a way that encourages further harm;
- use Callio to recruit people for violent activity; or
- use another person's private information to facilitate violence against them.
We may distinguish between credible threats, obvious fictional discussion, ordinary figures of speech, and non-credible jokes based on context.
However, claiming that a threat was a joke does not automatically prevent enforcement.
If we reasonably believe there is a serious and immediate risk to a person or the public, we may take urgent safety action and cooperate with competent authorities where legally required or permitted.
Callio is not an emergency service.
If you or another person is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency services.
8. No Terrorism or Violent Extremism
Callio must not be used to support terrorism or violent extremist activity.
Do not use the Service to:
- recruit for a terrorist or violent extremist organisation;
- praise or glorify terrorist attacks in a manner that promotes further violence;
- provide operational support for terrorist activity;
- coordinate terrorist or violent extremist activity;
- fundraise for prohibited terrorist organisations;
- distribute propaganda for the purpose of recruitment or operational support; or
- encourage users to carry out terrorist violence.
Discussion of terrorism, extremism, politics, history, current events, research, journalism, or personal experiences is not automatically prohibited.
Context and purpose matter.
Callio may take immediate action against content or conduct that supports or facilitates terrorist or violent extremist activity.
9. Suicide, Self-Harm, and Dangerous Behaviour
Do not encourage another person to harm or kill themselves.
You must not:
- encourage suicide;
- pressure a person to self-harm;
- shame someone for refusing to harm themselves;
- provide targeted encouragement for an identified person to carry out suicide or serious self-injury;
- threaten someone with the goal of driving them toward self-harm;
- coordinate self-harm challenges; or
- use Callio to exploit a person who is in crisis.
Conversations about mental health, recovery, personal experiences, or seeking support are allowed.
Expressions of distress are not violations simply because they discuss self-harm or suicide.
Where Callio becomes aware of content indicating a serious safety concern, we may take action consistent with our capabilities, policies, and applicable law.
Callio is not a crisis service, healthcare provider, or emergency service.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency services or qualified crisis support available in your area.
Do not intentionally encourage dangerous challenges, reckless acts, or conduct likely to cause serious physical injury.
10. No Exploitation, Coercion, or Human Trafficking
You must not use Callio to exploit, control, buy, sell, or traffic another person.
Prohibited conduct includes:
- human trafficking;
- sexual exploitation;
- forced labour;
- coercing another person into commercial sexual activity;
- recruiting people for exploitative activity;
- withholding or threatening to expose private information to control someone;
- using threats or debt to force another person to perform acts;
- facilitating the sale or exploitation of a person; or
- knowingly connecting users for trafficking or serious exploitation.
Callio may take immediate enforcement action where we reasonably suspect serious exploitation.
Where required or permitted by applicable law, we may preserve relevant information and cooperate with competent authorities.
11. No Scams, Fraud, or Financial Exploitation
Do not use Callio to steal from, defraud, or financially exploit other users.
You must not:
- run investment scams;
- promote fake giveaways;
- request money through fabricated emergencies;
- conduct romance scams;
- run advance-fee scams;
- steal payment information;
- request passwords or authentication codes;
- engage in phishing;
- promote fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes;
- impersonate a company, authority, or trusted person to obtain money or information;
- recruit users into fraudulent schemes;
- sell goods or services you do not intend to provide; or
- manipulate vulnerable users for financial gain.
Be cautious if a stranger asks you for money.
Callio does not verify financial opportunities, investments, giveaways, or requests for money made by users.
Never share passwords, one-time authentication codes, payment card details, or other highly sensitive financial information with strangers.
12. No Impersonation or Deceptive Identity Abuse
You may use a guest profile or display name where Callio allows it.
That does not give you permission to impersonate other people for deceptive or harmful purposes.
Do not:
- pretend to be another real person in order to deceive users;
- impersonate Callio staff;
- falsely claim to be a moderator;
- falsely claim to represent a company, government body, law enforcement agency, or other organisation;
- use another person's image or identity to scam, harass, or damage them;
- create a deceptive profile intended to facilitate fraud; or
- falsely claim to have powers or access within Callio that you do not have.
Parody, roleplay, or fictional identities may be permitted where they are not used to deceive, defraud, exploit, or harm others.
Callio profile information should not be treated as verified identity information unless Callio explicitly states otherwise.
13. Protect Personal and Private Information
Respect other people's privacy.
Do not share or expose another person's private or identifying information without permission.
This may include:
- home addresses;
- private telephone numbers;
- private email addresses;
- passwords;
- authentication codes;
- government identification numbers;
- payment card or bank information;
- precise private location information;
- private medical information;
- private intimate information;
- private communications; or
- other information that could create a serious risk of harassment, fraud, identity theft, or physical harm.
Do not use Callio to dox another person.
Do not threaten to dox another person.
Information being available somewhere online does not automatically mean you may use Callio to target, threaten, or endanger the person connected to that information.
You may choose to share information about yourself, but think carefully before giving personal information to strangers.
Callio cannot control what another person remembers or does with information you voluntarily disclose during a live conversation.
14. Do Not Record or Share Conversations Without Required Consent
Respect the privacy of your calls.
You must not record, capture, reproduce, livestream, publish, or distribute another user's voice or conversation without obtaining any consent required by applicable law.
Recording and consent laws differ between countries and jurisdictions.
You are responsible for understanding and following the law that applies to you.
Do not secretly record users for the purpose of:
- humiliating them;
- blackmailing them;
- threatening them;
- exposing private information;
- creating non-consensual sexual material;
- coordinating harassment; or
- publishing private conversations without lawful justification.
Callio's permission to use the Service does not give you permission to record another person.
If another person tells you that they do not consent to being recorded, respect their request and any legal requirements that apply.
15. No Non-Consensual Intimate Content or Sexual Extortion
You must not share or threaten to share intimate content without the depicted or recorded person's consent.
This includes:
- intimate images;
- sexual videos;
- sexual audio;
- recordings of sexual conversations;
- manipulated intimate content;
- sexually explicit deepfakes; or
- other private sexual material.
Do not threaten to publish intimate material to obtain:
- money;
- more images or recordings;
- sexual acts;
- continued contact;
- personal information; or
- any other benefit.
Sexual extortion and sextortion are prohibited.
A person previously consenting to create or share intimate material does not automatically mean they consent to its further distribution.
16. No Illegal Goods, Services, or Criminal Activity
Do not use Callio to organise, facilitate, or promote serious illegal activity.
You must not use the Service to:
- sell or distribute illegal drugs;
- traffic people;
- trade stolen financial information;
- sell stolen goods;
- arrange serious violent crime;
- distribute malware for criminal purposes;
- facilitate fraud;
- exchange unlawful sexual material;
- coordinate hacking or unauthorised access;
- arrange the unlawful sale of weapons; or
- provide operational assistance for serious criminal activity.
General conversation about crime, drugs, cybersecurity, law, news, history, or personal experiences is not automatically prohibited.
Context and purpose matter.
Educational, defensive, journalistic, or harm-prevention discussions may be treated differently from conduct intended to facilitate crime.
17. No Malicious Links, Malware, or Technical Abuse
Do not use Callio to attack other users or the Service.
You must not:
- send malware;
- distribute credential-stealing links;
- conduct phishing;
- send links designed to compromise another user's device or account;
- attempt to obtain another user's IP address or technical information through unauthorised means;
- exploit vulnerabilities to target users;
- interfere with another user's device;
- disrupt calls or matching through technical abuse;
- manipulate Callio's communication systems;
- bypass safety controls;
- abuse Callio's APIs, WebSocket systems, or WebRTC functionality; or
- encourage others to attack Callio or its users.
If you discover a security vulnerability, do not exploit it against users.
Report security issues through any security contact or disclosure process made available by Callio.
18. No Spam or Platform Manipulation
Do not misuse Callio's features.
Prohibited conduct includes:
- repeatedly sending the same unwanted message;
- mass-promoting links or services;
- using automated systems to contact users without authorisation;
- manipulating matching;
- intentionally disrupting large numbers of conversations;
- abusing callback or incoming-call features;
- repeatedly contacting users for unsolicited promotion;
- coordinating false reports;
- submitting large numbers of knowingly false reports;
- manipulating moderation systems;
- attempting to artificially create platform activity; or
- using multiple guest identities to evade restrictions or abuse users.
Changing your guest profile or clearing local data does not give you permission to bypass a suspension or ban.
19. Profile Names, Images, and Biographies
Profile information must follow these Community Guidelines.
Do not use a display name, profile picture, biography, or other profile information to:
- harass or threaten another person;
- impersonate someone for harmful or deceptive purposes;
- display prohibited sexual content;
- promote child sexual exploitation;
- promote terrorism or violent extremism;
- expose private information;
- facilitate scams;
- promote serious illegal activity; or
- evade enforcement.
Callio may remove, restrict, or require changes to profile information that violates these Guidelines.
The fact that profile content is short or temporary does not exempt it from these rules.
20. Reporting Violations
If another user violates these Community Guidelines, use Callio's available reporting tools.
When submitting a report:
- report conduct you genuinely believe may violate the rules;
- choose the most accurate available report reason;
- provide relevant information where the reporting flow allows it; and
- do not fabricate evidence or knowingly make false claims.
Reports should be made in good faith.
Do not use reporting tools to:
- retaliate against someone for ending a call;
- punish someone for disagreeing with you;
- harass another user;
- coordinate mass false reports;
- manipulate moderation decisions; or
- knowingly accuse someone of serious misconduct that did not occur.
Submitting a report does not guarantee that Callio will take the action you requested.
Callio may review the available information and determine the appropriate outcome based on the circumstances.
If you are in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency services.
Callio is not an emergency service.
21. How We Enforce These Guidelines
Callio may investigate suspected violations of these Community Guidelines, our Terms of Service, or applicable law.
Depending on the circumstances, enforcement action may include:
- a warning;
- ending a session;
- limiting a feature;
- restricting matching;
- restricting communication functionality;
- temporarily suspending access;
- permanently banning access;
- removing or restricting profile information;
- preserving relevant information where required or permitted by law; or
- cooperating with competent authorities where legally required.
We may consider factors such as:
- the seriousness of the conduct;
- whether there is an immediate safety risk;
- whether the conduct was targeted;
- whether the conduct was repeated;
- the apparent intent;
- the context of the interaction;
- previous violations;
- the risk of further harm; and
- the information reasonably available to us.
Not every violation receives the same consequence.
Serious conduct may result in immediate permanent enforcement even if it is the user's first known violation.
Less serious conduct may result in a warning or temporary restriction.
We may use technical signals, automated systems, and human review to support abuse prevention, safety, and moderation where appropriate.
The existence of a report does not automatically mean that the reported user violated these Guidelines.
22. Ban Evasion
If Callio restricts, suspends, or bans your access, you must not attempt to bypass that enforcement action.
You must not evade enforcement by:
- resetting or creating new guest identities;
- clearing browser or application data;
- changing your display name;
- changing profile information;
- using another person's access;
- manipulating device or network information;
- exploiting a technical weakness;
- using automated tools; or
- using another method intended to avoid a restriction.
Attempts to evade enforcement may result in additional restrictions.
A new profile does not erase responsibility for previous conduct.
23. Appeals and Moderation Questions
If you believe Callio took moderation action against you in error, you may use any appeal or contact process made available by Callio.
When submitting an appeal:
- explain why you believe the decision was incorrect;
- provide relevant context;
- do not submit false information;
- do not threaten or harass staff or moderators; and
- do not repeatedly submit identical appeals to disrupt the review process.
An appeal does not guarantee that an enforcement decision will be reversed.
Where applicable law gives you specific rights to receive information about or challenge a moderation decision, Callio will provide the process required by law.
If no in-product appeal route is available for your situation, you may contact Callio through [SUPPORT EMAIL].
24. These Guidelines Cannot Cover Every Situation
No set of Community Guidelines can describe every possible form of harmful or abusive conduct.
We may take action against conduct that is not described word-for-word in these Guidelines where the conduct clearly creates a serious safety, abuse, exploitation, or security risk and enforcement is consistent with our Terms of Service and applicable law.
We will consider context when making moderation decisions.
We do not intend these Guidelines to prohibit ordinary disagreement, awkward conversations, good-faith discussion, humour, education, journalism, or discussion of difficult topics merely because someone finds the topic uncomfortable.
At the same time, calling harmful conduct a joke, prank, debate, experiment, or roleplay does not automatically make it acceptable.
The purpose and context of the conduct matter.
25. Changes to These Guidelines
Callio may update these Community Guidelines as the Service develops.
We may make changes because of:
- new features;
- new forms of abuse;
- safety developments;
- changes to our moderation systems;
- legal or regulatory requirements; or
- lessons from how the Service is used.
When we update these Guidelines, we will change the "Last updated" date.
Where required by applicable law, we will provide appropriate notice of material changes.
